Local SEO is a function of what I call “location authority”. In essence, local SEO is the act of growing the presence of a local business in Google organic search results or Google Maps (local search results).
But regardless of whether you are targeting organic or maps, location authority is the engine that drives your increased presence in the local market, and in turn allows your business to get found by local customers, clients, patients, etc…
How do you do “Local SEO”?
The question can be restated as “how do you build location authority?”
Location authority can be built using several different strategies and techniques such as:
Additionally, you can create “City Pages” to target metro areas where you cannot verify a GMB listing.
City pages are basically web pages designed to target surrounding metro areas + products / services for your business.
For example, if you have a business in Atlanta, Georgia, then you probably have a GMB listing verified at your Atlanta address.
But… what if you wanted to also target the 100+ surrounding metro areas that make up the greater metro Atlanta market?
This is where City Pages come into play… but only create one city page per metro area + product / service.
You would proceed with optimizing your city page with the same SEO technique you would implement for any other landing page.
First of all submit your website to different local citation directories. Make sure your name, physical address and phone number is consistent. Here is the list of local citation and web directories.
